"South Dakota Dreamin'..."

Hey, I know that many of you think that lately I've been writing a lot more "Politically-themed" pieces lately, but first I'd like to explain why before I go on the original subject-matter that I'll be mocking today. There is a fundamental difference between people that come from the varied cultural environments of the three classes in this country. I'm from the lower two as a kid and even now as an adult (Lower and Middle Class... currently, more of the "Lower" variety) very little has changed from me in terms of how much money I make, but I'd much rather come from the roots that I did than have it any other way, and the reason for that is quite simple: I have a sense of Humor.

We, and the bottom rungs of the Monetary Ladder of this country (y'know, the ones that pay all the taxes and get virtually none of the benefits) can objectively see ourselves and everyone above and below us in an equal light... and that is, more often than not, disturbing to those in positions of authority. You see, when I do write a piece on society, I make fun of everyone, since we are all equally ridiculous... regardless of what brand name you wear, from Gucci to ProWings, we're all the same, and whether you eat Sushi or Kraft Mac N' Cheese, these are all superficial differences in taste (I personally prefer the Mac N' Cheese... sorry, I grew up broke) and are all surface issues, that are designed to further separate us based on how much we can afford to waste on extraneous bullshit that we don't really need (I mean seriously, who really needs a Duvet?!).

Thus, we are taught since childhood that you can tell how well-0ff someone is based off of key indicators like if a man is wearing a suit with cufflinks, he's either renting a tux to get married, or he's rich... or if a woman is wearing pearl necklace (insert crude masturbatory joke here) than she is also likely be affluent as well. I've met many people that were (and still are) wealthy... and let me tell you I haven't had that vacuous an experience since I got pinned to the ground by my friends in High School who gave me a Hickie with a Wet/Dry Shop Vac. The thing is, we all like the same movies, go to the same stores, and eat the same crappy fast-food... so the problems in this country are largely based on political and religious view-points that are often ingrained in us from childhood... but more often than not, it seems that many people never step back and take an objective look at their beliefs and decide whether or not these beliefs fit them now as adults.

Case in point: South Dakota's Governor Mike Rounds has decided to move to make getting an abortion illegal in his state. Now, I've lived in South Dakota, and I know that there aren't that many people living in that state, and the people that do live there are largely White Christians... and that by itself isn't a bad thing. However, it is a bad thing that any state would decide that abortion in and of itself, is a bad thing without realizing all of the instances that may make getting an abortion a necessity. Take if the Daughter is molested and then impregnated by an adult relative, or the birth of the child will likely kill the mother... these seem like no-brainer's to me. When someone decides to make a blanket assumption on an issue without considering all of the variables that may go wrong in direct opposition to what they believe to be right... they only further prove their ignorance.

Mr. Rounds, you are supporting a border-line fascistic law, one that the state will decide for the woman, without considering her reasons for getting the medical procedure done. In direct contrast, I would like to suggest another law: If you want to ejaculate, you have to be married, otherwise, we cut your balls off. Why would you want to bust a nut if it doesn't produce anything? I believe that George Carlin said it best when he said, "Not every ejaculation deserves a name!" If a woman decides not to have a child, the last time I checked, that was none of our fucking business. If my neighbor gets pregnant, I am utterly unaffected by it, since it (I assume) was her choice. But, if it turns out that she's only pregnant because she was raped by some Frat kid who slipped her a Rufi at a party, and she needs a ride across state lines... you can bet your sweet, virgin ass that I'll take her wherever she needs to go.

I used to hear stories about women having to go to these "Back-Alley Doctors" in the 60's and 70's to get an abortion performed, and from what I recall, many of them either died or lost the ability to have children all together due to an infection... all because of one groups' view of what is appropriate. You see Mike, you are displaying a perfect depiction of the Mid-West mentality by not acknowledging that whether or not it's not happening doesn't bother you, it's that it could be happening in your own backyard... that's what bothers you.

If anyone believes that we, in this country are better than anyone else in the world, raise your hand...

...now, think about how we look down our noses at oppressive regimes that dictate to their citizens what they can and can't do...

...now think about how it's happening in South Dakota right now.

You get it now? Good.

Life is about learning... I hope you've learned something here today, and have a good one.
